Sports Betting Games to Bet on - Feb. 23rd Edition
Feb 23rd 2009

March Madness is nearly upon us, and we’re rushing headlong into the playoff stretch for both the NBA and NHL. If you’re one of the many who finally bought a big-screen television you will love watching basketball and hockey in HDTV. It might even improve your handicapping. But don’t take our word for it; check out this week’s Top 5 betting games on the tube and see for yourself. All times are Eastern, and updated lines are available in the Bet Online Sportsbook.

1. NBA: Cleveland at San Antonio (Friday, 9:30 p.m.)

The Cavaliers (43-11 SU, 36-18 ATS) put on a better show on Sunday than anything the folks in Hollywood could come up with, emptying the bench early against the Pistons to win their third game in a row since the All-Star break. Cleveland is on a brilliant run at 12-3 SU and 9-6 ATS over the past month; the Cavs turned up the dial even further on Detroit with the return of Delonte West, who scored 25 points in 33 minutes and hit all five of his trey attempts. The Spurs (37-17 SU, 27-25-2 ATS) are also hot this month at 12-4 SU and 10-5-1 ATS, but they’re without Manu Ginobili and his stellar 23.7 points per 40 minutes.

2. NCAAB: Kansas at Oklahoma (Monday, 9:00 p.m.)

Fans of the Sooners (25-2 SU, 12-9-1 ATS) breathed a sigh of relief Sunday when the MRI on Blake Griffin’s noggin reportedly came back clean. Griffin (22.0 points, 13.8 rebounds per game) suffered a concussion on Saturday against the Texas Longhorns (-1.5) and had to leave the floor after just 11 minutes of action – the decisive moment in a 73-68 loss. Griffin was scheduled to be re-evaluated Monday and remained iffy at press time for this crucial Big 12 matchup with the Jayhawks (22-5 SU, 15-5-1 ATS). The two teams are now tied atop the conference standings at 11-1. Live betting will be available for this game starting at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

3. NBA: Phoenix at L.A. Lakers (Thursday, 8:00 p.m.)

The Suns (31-24 SU, 20-32-2 ATS) are 3-1 SU and ATS since Alvin Gentry replaced Terry Porter as head coach, but that lone defeat is the one that speaks the loudest. That was Sunday’s 128-108 loss to the visiting Boston Celtics (+2). Phoenix is expected to be without Amare Stoudemire (23.3 points per 40 minutes) for the next eight weeks due to a detached retina, leaving the Suns visibly shorthanded in the paint – even against a Boston team that was missing Kevin Garnett. The Lakers (46-10 SU, 29-27 ATS) have been able to withstand the Andrew Bynum injury because they also have Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom in the frontcourt. Los Angeles has won four straight since the All-Star break to improve to 13-2 SU and 10-5 ATS this month.

4. NHL: Washington at Boston (Saturday, 1:00 p.m.)

The top two teams in the Eastern Conference meet on NESN. The 40-12-8 Bruins are still in first place, but they’re just 1-4-2 in their last seven games, while the 38-17-5 Capitals are surging at 8-2-1 in their past 11. All eyes are on Alex Ovechkin, who scored his 43rd goal of the season in Sunday’s 5-2 victory over the Penguins – that’s six goals in Ovechkin’s last five games. Boston’s power play is just 3-for-28 during this slump.

5. Soccer: Manchester United at Inter Milan (Saturday, 2:45 p.m.)

This week is the first leg of the UEFA Champions League knockout stage, and the best of the eight games on tap features the top team in the English Premiership versus the top team in Italy’s Serie A – two of the very best leagues in Europe. Manchester United (+180) are in fine form with 10 straight victories in EPL action; they allowed their first goal since Christmas in Sunday’s 2-1 triumph over Blackburn Rovers. Inter (+140) have eight wins, two draws and a loss since the holidays. A draw (+225) is a definite possibility between these two magnificent clubs.
